The Sacred Works of Jachet Berchem
ed. Marnix van Berchum

The Flemish composer Jachet Berchem (c. 1505-c. 1567) is known today as a pioneer in Italian secular musical forms, having passed the entirety of his known active career first in the Veneto and then in Puglia. A small but important set of masses and motets, however, is also the product of his pen. These works are here edited for the first time, revealing a first-rate master of the dense imitative polyphony current in the mid-16th century.
